Africa Organics Kalahari Melon Body Wash took the honours in both the Individual Product category as well as the Overall Winner category at the Pharmaceutical & Cosmetic Review / IFF New Product Competition Awards Function on the 17th October2013.
The aim of the competition is to give local and international brands, who supply the South African market, the opportunity to showcase their innovative new products.
Africa Organics Kalahari Melon Body Wash demonstrates exceptional organic formulation innovation; “Overall, we feel that we’ve done a solid job of getting a genuinely ethical product on shelf at a reasonable price” says CEO Trevor Steyn.
Unique, even among organically certified ranges, Africa Organics products are 100% natural and use wild sourced African ingredients. It is these ethics that make the brand and the product so notable in the South African market. The inclusion of community sourced ingredients, accredited by PhytoTrade Africa, assist in empowering African communities and alleviating poverty. The Kalahari Melon, used in the award winning body wash, is sourced from a women’s co-operative in the Kalahari. The income these women get from this project enable them to send their children to school, feed and clothe their families.
Formulated in accordance with the Cradle-to-Cradle philosophy of full cost accounting, all aspects of the range take into consideration both pre and post production impact on the environment and people with the aim being to leave no negative impacts. In addition to organic certification with Ecocert France and approval by PhytoTrade Africa, the brand is also accredited with Beauty Without Cruelty and The Vegan Society. The range is of course free of all harmful chemicals including parabens, petrochemicals, sulphated surfactants, silicons, animal products, ethoxylated or PEG ingredients, propylene glycol or any other ingredients red-flagged by Ecocert.
This award is a great honour and accolade not only for Africa Organics but also for the natural and organic personal care industry as a whole. It shows that the market in SA is getting ready for something new and exciting, that consumers are taking a closer look at health and ethics when choosing which products to use.
The Africa Organics team wins the opportunity to attend Incosmetics 2014, the leading global business platform for personal care and cosmetics ingredients, taking place from
1 to 3 April in Hamburg, Germany.
